India's Animation and Gaming Sector Gets Major Boost with New Centre of Excellence- Written by Bisjhintus Team

In a significant move aimed at promoting the creative economy, the Indian Union Cabinet has approved the establishment of a new Centre of Excellence (CoE) dedicated to animation, visual effects, gaming, and comics (AVGC). The new CoE is expected to provide cutting-edge resources and infrastructure to foster innovation, support startups, and scale global collaborations in these high-growth sectors.

Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw highlighted that the AVGC sectors have become integral to major global film projects, including blockbusters such as The Lion King, Top Gun: Maverick, and RRR. This new CoE will consolidate India’s position as a global hub for AVGC by promoting skills development, research, and technology incubation in cities like Mumbai, Chennai, Bangalore, and Hyderabad—where global capability centers already thrive.

The initiative comes at a crucial time, as India’s AVGC sector has been growing exponentially, driven by the country's talented pool of animators, artists, and tech specialists. The global animation industry, projected to grow at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of over 12%, holds immense promise for India, which is positioned to be a key player.

Conclusion:

This new Centre of Excellence signals the government’s focus on strengthening India’s digital economy. By equipping local talent with state-of-the-art technology and fostering international collaborations, the CoE will likely attract investments and boost job creation, while enhancing the country’s creative output.
