K.P. Sharma Oli is set to lead Nepal again. Has Prachanda failed his vote of confidence? - Written by Ishita Pal (Managing News Partner) Bisjhintus News

The dawn of Friday marked the beginning of a new era for Nepal as Prachanda lost his top executive post after failing to secure a vote of confidence in the House of Representatives. This has set grounds for Oli to become the Prime MInister again. Prachanda secured a vote of confidence by only 63 Head of Representative members, failing by a number of 194 Head of Representative members. It was the fifth time that Prachanda faced a floor test thus leading to the two largest parties in Nepal - Nepali Congress and CPM-UML forming a coalition government in Nepal led by Oli.

Let us have a look at K.P. Sharma Oli’s political journey:

1.He started his political career in the year of 1966 followed by joining the Communist Party of Nepal in the year of 1970.

2.He made it to the House of Representatives in 1991 and again got re-elected in the year of 1994 where he served as the Minister for Home Affairs in Manmohan Adhikari’s minority government.

3.After a lot of ups and downs, he finally got elected as the Prime Minister on 11th October 2015.

4.Following 2015, he was elected as the Prime Minister for a second time and third time consecutively 2018 and 2021 respectively.

But how will this turn of events in Nepal impact its ties with India? Because if we reflect back onto the past events, India’s ties with Nepal have often faced turbulence during Oli’s former tenures. For instance, when the national authorities of India was accused of conspiring in bringing down Oli as he stood firmly against the economic blockade imposed by India; an allegation categorically rejected by the Ministry of External Affairs of India.
