Sony Pictures will push ahead with its arbitration award against Zee Entertainment Enterprises, after a fresh setback in its high-profile merger spat. The judgment further fuels the legal battles linked to the collapsed $10 billion deal, with industry ties glued to the unfolding drama.

 

1. Sony Seeks Termination Fee:

The story unfolds on January 22 when Sony, on the alleged non-fulfillment of closing conditions, terminated the merger agreement with Zee. Sony, at the same time, further initiates arbitration proceedings and seeks a whopping $90 million termination fee from Zee.

 

2. SIAC Denies Sony Plea for Emergency Relief, NCLT Takes Lead:

Sony's plea to prevent Zee from availing its rights through any other legal recourse outside the arbitration process hit spot. The Singapore International Arbitration Centre (SIAC) has refused to accept Sony's plea that it is beyond its jurisdiction to restrain Zee from moving the National Company Law Tribunal (NCLT) in India.
