Star Health and Allied Insurance has introduced a groundbreaking health insurance policy in Braille, aimed at empowering the visually impaired community in India. Named "Special Care Gold," the policy is specifically designed to cater to individuals with disabilities, including physical, sensory, or cognitive impairments, covering those with a disability of 40% or more. This initiative enables visually impaired individuals to independently access health insurance information and services, marking a significant step towards inclusivity.

 

In addition to providing tailored health coverage, Star Health has launched a financial inclusivity drive to offer visually impaired individuals the opportunity to become health insurance agents. This initiative focuses on upskilling and training them, allowing them to earn a livelihood from home. Speaking on the occasion, Anand Roy, Managing Director and CEO of Star Health, highlighted the company’s commitment to making health insurance accessible to everyone, in line with the Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority of India’s (IRDAI) "Insurance for All" vision.

 

Developed in collaboration with the National Association of the Blind (NAB), the policy ensures comprehensive medical coverage, including treatments and services that are often unavailable to people with disabilities. Srikanth Bolla, Co-Founder of Bollant Industries and a visually impaired entrepreneur, praised the initiative, stating that "Special Care Gold" represents a significant step toward true inclusivity.
