As summer temperatures soar, Indians are gearing up for vacations, with an  impressive 82 percent planning to travel during this season . According to a survey conducted by OYO, a prominent hospitality technology firm, Manali and Goa have emerged as the top choices for hill and beach destinations, respectively.

 

OYO's Summer Vacation Index 2023:

It reveals that the surge in domestic travel, initially triggered by Covid restrictions, shows no signs of slowing down, with a remarkable 92 percent of respondents expressing their intention to explore domestic destinations. This trend indicates an enduring preference for homegrown travel experiences.

 

Shorter Trips and Staycations Preferred:

The survey, based on feedback from over 15,000 individuals across India via the OYO app, highlights that shorter trips and 'staycations' lasting 1-3 days remain the preferred choices among travelers. This suggests a desire for quick getaways and a focus on quality experiences over extended stays.

 

Mountain Escapes Steal the Spotlight:

Mountains have claimed the spotlight this summer, garnering 30 percent of the votes, closely followed by beach destinations at 26 percent. Manali emerges as India's favorite mountain destination, with other scenic spots like Kashmir, Mcleod Ganj, Ooty, and Coorg also making the list. OYO reports a surge in demand for hotels in Manali as summer travel gains momentum.

 

Goa Continues to Reign as Beach Paradise:

Goa retains its status as the preferred beach destination, with 50 percent of respondents eager to travel there. Demand for hotels in Goa has surged by over 20 percent compared to the same period last year. Andaman Nicobar, Kerala, Pondicherry, and Gokarna also rank high among beachgoers' choices. 

 

The survey reveals a growing inclination towards exploring lesser-known destinations. Mawlynnong in Meghalaya and Ziro Valley in Arunachal Pradesh top the list of offbeat choices, garnering 27 percent and 23 percent of the votes, respectively. Valiyaparamba in Kerala also gained popularity, with 16 percent of the votes.

Approximately 13 percent of respondents expressed a desire to embark on spiritual pilgrimages. Kedarnath leads the pilgrimage destinations, followed by Vaishno Devi and Varanasi, coinciding with the beginning of the Char Dham Yatra in late April.

 

For international vacations, Maldives remains the top choice for Indian travelers. Switzerland, Dubai, Thailand, and Indonesia have also made it onto the dream vacation list for the summer.

 

Budget-Friendly Travel:

When it comes to budget considerations, 34 percent of respondents are seeking trips under Rs 10,000, indicating a demand for cost-effective travel options.

 

In summary, the survey reflects a robust resurgence in travel demand, emphasizing the desire of Indian travelers to explore the diverse beauty of their homeland. This trend bodes well for the Indian travel and hospitality industry, with travelers valuing quick escapes and meaningful experiences this summer.
